From the port of Nagasaki to the summit of Fuji

Japan beyond the guidebook

Most Japan tours follow the Kyoto–Osaka–Tokyo corridor. The Grand Arc is built differently. We begin where Japan begins in Nagasaki, where centuries of trade with the world left their mark on the architecture, the food, and the soul of the city. From there, we move through the volcanic heartland of Kyushu, witness the mythical gorges of Takachiho at dawn, cross to Hiroshima, and ascend into the Hida Alps.

November is Japan's most spectacular month. The autumn koyo the turning of the maples reaches its peak across our entire route: fiery hillsides above Aso caldera, crimson avenues in Hida Furukawa, golden ginkgos in Kanazawa, and the legendary Momiji Corridor at Lake Kawaguchi with Fuji rising behind the colour. This departure is timed for exactly that window.

Omicho Market & Kanazawa Flavours

Japan's finest regional produce in the city that calls itself little Kyoto Noto Peninsula seafood, Kaga vegetables, and local sake in a covered market that has fed the city for 300 years.

Momiji Corridor at Fuji

A double avenue of crimson maples frames Fuji's perfect reflection in Lake Kawaguchi. November is the only month this view exists exactly as photographers dream it.
